PERSONAL PROJECT · UNITY DOTS
Bee colony simulation
A Unity DOTS colony simulation focused on bee behaviour, exploration, and entity performance.
The idea
I started this project as a real-time strategy game and bee-colony simulation. I wanted to build a world with a large bee population, a working economy, and rules that could change how the colony behaved. The original scope also included combat, invasions, and deeper society management.
What I built
- Used the C# Job System and Burst Compiler to update large groups of bees in parallel.
- Built a grid-based spatial hash for flower discovery and fog of war.
- Implemented bee roles and behaviours with ECS components and tags.
- Simulated nectar, wax, and population growth, with laws that affect colony behaviour.
Project status and visual assets
The project is no longer being updated. I stopped expanding it when the scope became too large for a solo developer. The visual assets used in the project are not my work.
